Mary White Prize / Le Prix Mary White

The Mary White Prize for Best Article in Phoenix 

The Mary White Prize for Best Article published in Phoenix is awarded on an annual basis and includes a cash prize of $500. The award has been instituted by the editorial board of Phoenix in honour of Mary White (1908–1977), the first editor of the journal. The judges, who are chosen by the Editor from the members of the Phoenix editorial board, serve a two-year term. Articles which originated as CAC plenary lectures are not eligible for the prize.
 
Mary White was an accomplished classicist who held a professorship at Trinity College (University of Toronto), was a founding member of the Classical Association of Canada and of Phoenix, and a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Additionally, she was the first woman to be head of her college’s department and the first woman to be head of a graduate department at the University of Toronto. Le comité de rédaction de Phoenixannonce la création du Prix annuel Mary White pour le meilleur article publié dans la revue. Le prix est décerné sur une base annuelle et assorti d’une bourse de 500 $. Les juges sont choisis par le directeur parmi les membres du comité de rédaction de Phoenixet se voient confier un mandat de deux ans. Les articles qui sont issus de conférences plénières prononcées lors du colloque annuel de la SCEC ne sont pas éligibles pour le prix.
